The Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) has faulted the ministry of trade for not being clear on the matter of sugar adjustments that it has made to the citizens of the country.
The remarks are coming following the announcement from Illovo Sugar Plc through the statement it released on Monday that prices of brown and white sugar has adjusted.
CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa says the adjustment of prices of sugar is a well calculated move in line with the scarcity of sugar which has hit the country for the past 5 months.
Namiwa added that it does not make any sense for Malawians should be buying sugar at unreasonable price following the adjustments of sugar prices by Illovo when yet sugarcane is grown in the country.
Recently CDEDI asked Illovo sugar to explain to Malawians why sugar prices are so exorbitant in the country yet the same commodity is cheap outside the country.
