This campaign aims at drawing attention and garner commitment to reduce factors of Child abuse , neglect and unnecessary child-family separation.
Speaking during the press briefing in Lilongwe, SOS national director Smart Managonya, said the campaign comes after data which shows that a quite number of children have lost parental care and are not cared for.
“So we are promoting alternative care that the children are raised in the families where both parents are available”, Managonya said.
SOS Children Village in partnership with the NGO Coalition on Child Rolights , National Youth Network on Climate Change (NYNC) and Citizens Alliance is deeply concerned with the plight of Children Without Parental Care in Africa and Malawi.
Therefore the campaign calls for actions after noting sadness that when children are growing up without the care of their parents, they face heightened risks of Child abuse, neglect and exploitation which often leads to unnecessary family separation whchi is a gross violation of human’s rights.
Henry Machemba, the National Coordinator NGO-Coalition said that the campaign among others, asks the government to seriously consider the inclusion of Children Without Parental Care in National Statistical Databases and should gazette and implement the Draft Child Care Protection and Justice Regulations which proposes a range of suitable care options.
SOS Children Village launches the campaign to make sure that every child gets parental care and also parents are supporting the children in Malawi.
This campaign comes as Malawi will join the world in the International Day of Families which falls on 15 May every year and this will raise awareness and promote best practices to propel strong and resilient families in the country.
