The Malawi Commissioner of Statics, Shelton Kanyada has today, said many Malawians are now embracing the culture of using internet as most youths in the country are now able to access smart phones an indication that we are moving forward technologically which is in line with the Malawi 2063 national policy. However, he also said at the same time, there is a decline in the number of people using TVs and radios.
Kanyada was speaking at Bingu International Conference Center in Lilongwe during the launch of the national survey of access and use of ICT services by households and individuals 2023 report on April 18, 2024.
He further said the report has indicated barriers that hinder people from having unlimited access to internet including high data bundles. Hence, they have directed the same to Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority to liaise with mobile phone companies to make adjustments.
Speaking at the event, MACRA Board Chairperson, Bridget Chibwana said For policymakers, private enterprises, technology developers, and all relevant stakeholders, the report we are launching today is a road-map towards achieving the Malawi 2063 national policy.
“The report provides invaluable insights that will shape our strategies, policies, and services to meet the evolving technological needs of Malawians. I urge all stakeholders across the nation, to engage deeply with the results of this survey,” she said.
