Women in Dedza Embrace Digital Financial Services to Boost Small Businesses.

Date:

Some women in Dedza District have started using digital financial services promoted by the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM). On Saturday, the central bank, in collaboration with AC Consulting, held an awareness campaign on digital financial services specifically aimed at women involved in small-scale businesses and village savings and loans (VSL) groups.

Labina Samuel, a tailor from Mthandizi in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kachere, highlighted how digital financial services make financial transactions more convenient. She explained, “When conducting business, I prefer mobile money transactions because they simplify the process. Customers send the exact amount as agreed, eliminating the need to find change, which saves time.”

Linda Chinyanga, a businesswoman from Katsekaminga in T/A Kamenyagwaza, also praised digital financial services for their efficiency. “I encourage my customers to use Airtel Money and Mpamba for transactions. It’s easy, fast, and secure,” she said.

Traditional Authority Chauma commended the central bank for increasing awareness of digital financial services. “I will encourage my community to open accounts with commercial banks or use mobile money services,” he stated.

Margaret Luis Mbwana, a facilitator from AC Consulting, mentioned that the campaign would continue in Dedza for a month, targeting local markets, VSLs, and area development committees. “The government recognizes that women and small-scale business owners play a vital role in development. That’s why we are promoting knowledge of mobile banking, TNM Mudziwathu, Mpamba Ndikankhe, Airtel Kutchova, and other services,” she explained.

The campaign is supported by the African Development Bank.
