Super League of Malawi (Sulom) awaits official communication from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) before making changes to the TNM Super League fixtures due to the ongoing Cosafa Cup tournament. According to Sulom regulations, FCB Nyasa Bullets, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, and Silver Strikers should be exempted from fixtures as they have contributed four or more players to the Malawi National Football Team.
Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, stated that they are waiting for official communication from FAM regarding the need to review the congested schedule. Banda emphasized the importance of considering the health of the competition and the potential impact on the performance and development of football in Malawi. He also mentioned the initial agreement with FAM that clubs’ key players would not be selected for the Cosafa Cup, as it is considered a developmental tournament and not on the FIFA calendar.
FAM General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, stated that the issue will be addressed by the association’s competitions committee. Gunda expects Sulom to exempt the clubs in accordance with its rules and regulations.
The upcoming TNM Super League fixtures include Mighty Mukuru Wanderers facing Mafco FC at Chitowe in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota, and Silver Strikers playing against Extreme FC at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday. FCB Nyasa Bullets are set to host Blue Eagles at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday
