Police in Mangochi are hunting for unknown assailants who are on the run and are suspected of raping and strangling to death a 21-year-old woman.

Mangochi Police publicist, Amina Daud, said on Tuesday that the woman Tandika Rajab from Mbaluku Village, Senior Chief Chowe area in the district left home in the evening on Sunday, August 20 to attend an initiation ceremony within her village but she never returned home.

“She was later found the following morning lying lifeless in a nearby uncompleted building almost naked, and post-mortem which was conducted at Mangochi District Hospital indicated that Rajab died due to strangulation after being raped”, said Daud.

Inspector Daudi added that police have instituted manhunt for the unknown assailants who will answer murder and rape charges once arrested.

Meanwhile, the Mangochi Police spokesperson has appealed to members of the public to tip the police in case they have information of the assailants.
