Phalombe First Grade Magistrate court on July 19, 2023, has convicted and sentenced two men, Charles Katunga, aged 50, from Mgona Village, and Amos Magombo, aged 63, from Njaya Village both from Traditional Authority Kaduya in Phalombe district to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for possessing human tissues and trespassing burial place.
The court through the state prosecutor Sub Inspector Dingiswayo Mbepula heard that on June 21, 2023, the two, were offering for sale copses of two infants at Migowi Trading centre to a certain business person.
Appearing before First Grade Magistrate Leornad Mtosa the convicts pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against them.
In mitigation, convicts pleaded for leniency saying that they are too old to serve a custodial sentence.
In submission, Mbepula prayed for stiffer punishment considering the fact that the conduct of the two, is the threat to the society and emotionally they injured bereaved family.
Passing judgement, First Grade Magistrate Mtosa concurred with the state therefore sentenced the two to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour to deter would be the offenders.
