Lilongwe City explores means to check street vending.

Lilongwe city council has requested for the secondment of Malawi police officers to enhance on security issues and enforcement of various activities and services in the City.

This has been revealed by the mayor for Lilongwe city council Councillor Richard Banda at the orientation for the first deployment of 25 Malawi police officers to Lilongwe city council on Tuesday in Lilongwe.

Banda expressed relief and emphasized that this arrangement will bring sanity in areas of illegal developments, illegal vending, business licensing and sanitation among others things.

On his side the director of community policing Alex Simenti expressed gratefulness for the initiative saying this will bring sanity in the city.

He said through the partnership with the council the police deployed to this project underwent formal interview and a brief description of the importance of the initiative.
