A 10-year-old girl has died in Lilongwe after being bitten by a dog belonging to Safe Guard Security Services(SGSS).
Confirming the matter, Lilongwe Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer Foster Benjamin said the girl, identified as Ellen Chawanda, met her fate yesterday at around 5 pm at Crossroads Hotel near Puma Filling Station.
According to Benjamin, the girl, along with her elder sister, were heading to their home in Area 46 from Maula Prison side when she was suddenly attacked by the dog.
“The dog which had no muzzle on, had escaped from its handler Mtalison Damiano, 29, and bit the girl on the neck before it was killed by a mob,” said Benjamin.
He said the victim was immediately taken to Bwaila District Hospital where she died due to her injuries.
Postmortem results conducted at Kamuzu Central Hospital indicated that death was due to severe loss of blood.
Meanwhile, Police have arrested Damiano, a Safe Guard Security Services employee.
The deceased hailed from Makanjira in Mangochi District.
