In Ntcheu, three people have died while six others have sustained various degrees of minor injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in got involved in a road accident.
The accident occured on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at around 00:15 hrs, at Gwaza Village, near Mthandizi, along M1 road.
The deceased have been identified as Focus Naisi, adult, Omar Anafi, adult, and 27 year old Adam Kabotolo.
The driver of the vehicle, registration number MHG 6492, Nissan Diesel lorry, Yusuf John, was coming from the direction of Balaka heading Ntcheu with twenty passengers on board. Upon arrival at Gwaza, he hit the rear offside corner of motor vehicle, registration number ZA 1199/TO 6696 freightliner which was stationary on the nearside lane.
Due to the impact, the three were pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntcheu District Hospital due to severe head injuries.
Meanwhile, Police in the district are advising people to desist from carrying passengers in open vehicles to avoid accidents of similar kind. Police further warns that anyone found doing the malpractice will not be spared by the long arm of the law.
