The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has announced the commencement of this year’s Data Privacy Week, scheduled to kick off on January 28. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of data protection and privacy rights in Malawi.

Dan Chiwoni, Head of the Data Protection Unit at MACRA, shared details about the upcoming event, highlighting a variety of activities planned to engage the public. These include roadshows, interactive sessions, and educational campaigns designed to promote understanding of data privacy rights and obligations.

This year’s theme underscores the significance of safeguarding personal information in the digital age. The campaign seeks to empower individuals and organizations with the knowledge needed to ensure compliance with data protection regulations while encouraging responsible data management practices.

MACRA emphasizes that Data Privacy Week provides a platform for stakeholders, including the government, private sector, and civil society, to collaborate on enhancing data security and addressing privacy challenges in Malawi’s growing digital ecosystem.

The commemoration is part of MACRA’s broader efforts to create a secure and transparent digital environment that supports economic growth and public trust.
