Former Malawi President Joyce Banda has emphasized the need for thorough planning for next year’s Tripartite Elections to ensure all eligible voters can exercise their right to vote.
Banda cautioned that excluding eligible voters could lead to widespread frustration and stressed that it is the responsibility of both the government and parliament to ensure everyone has access to the polls. She encouraged parliament to consider amending laws that might prevent citizens from voting, such as the requirement for a citizenship certificate.
Political analyst Henry Chingaipe supported Banda’s stance, noting that government agencies, including the National Registration Bureau, must work to prevent certification issues from obstructing eligible voters. He added that trust in the voting process is critical and that careful preparation is essential to prevent potential unrest.
