Chitipa Development Trust (CDT) and Friends of Chitipa on Friday donated 10 oxygen cylinders and 70 fluorescent bulbs worth over K1.5 million to Chitipa District Hospital.
CDT Chairperson Austin Mushani said his organisation decided to donate after noticing that the hospital had shortage of oxygen cylinders.
“Our members raised the concern that the district hospital has no oxygen, which is risky to Chitipa communities hence the donation,” Mushani explained.
He further hoped that donation will improve health service delivery in the district, especially amongst women and children.
Chief Preventive Health Officer for Chitipa District Council, Sam Chirwa, thanked Friends of Chitipa and CDT for the donation, which he said will go a long way in saving people’s lives.
Chirwa said the district hospital has so many challenges and the donation has eased one of the burdens the district referral hospital was facing.
“These oxygen cylinders are very expensive and as a district hospital it was difficult to procure them, and we were failing to support patients in need of life saving services,” he said.
Senior Chief Mwabulambya thanked the CDT and Friends of Chitipa for donating the lifesaving equipment to the hospital.
