Catholic University of Malawi Enforces Strict Disciplinary Measures.

Date:

The Catholic University of Malawi has implemented strict disciplinary measures against students involved in various forms of misconduct. A total of 11 students are facing disciplinary actions, with penalties including expulsion and suspension.

The misconduct charges include academic dishonesty—such as bringing reference materials into exam rooms and using smartphones during tests—as well as behavioral issues like physical assault, defamation, harassment, and cyberbullying.

The disciplinary hearings resulted in severe outcomes: some students received suspensions ranging from one semester to one academic year, while others were expelled. Notably, students caught using reference materials during exams were suspended for periods between one semester and one year. One student, found guilty of defaming and harassing peers and using obscene language, has been expelled.

The university’s administration has emphasized its commitment to maintaining a positive learning environment and upholding institutional values. By enforcing these strict penalties, the university aims to foster discipline and accountability among its students.
