Steven Baba Malondera, the Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South East Constituency, has reiterated the importance of ensuring that every individual has access to quality healthcare. He called on duty bearers and relevant authorities to take proactive measures to provide adequate healthcare services to all constituents.
Malondera made these remarks following his donation of an ambulance to Nyanja Health Centre, located within his constituency. The gesture is aimed at addressing critical gaps in the region’s healthcare delivery system, particularly in emergency medical services.
During his address, Malondera acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by residents in his constituency, highlighting that the local healthcare system has been severely under-resourced. He pointed out that many individuals struggle to access timely medical care, especially during emergencies, due to inadequate referral systems and a lack of transport options for patients needing to be transferred to higher-level facilities.
The donation of the ambulance is seen as a crucial step toward improving emergency medical services in the area. Garry Nsikula, the facility in charge at Nyanja Health Centre, expressed gratitude for the contribution, stating that the new ambulance will significantly improve the centre’s ability to handle severe medical cases. Nsikula explained that the ambulance will facilitate the timely referral of patients to Kamuzu Central Hospital, which serves as the regional referral hospital. The health centre serves approximately 56,000 people, making the need for efficient transportation of patients all the more critical.
Malondera’s donation highlights the ongoing need for improved healthcare infrastructure and services in rural areas. The provision of the ambulance is a vital step toward addressing these gaps, ensuring that the people of Lilongwe South East can receive better medical care in emergencies.
