MP Abida Mia Pledges Development in Chikwawa Nkombedzi Constituency.

Date:

Chikwawa Nkombedzi constituency MP, Abida Mia, has committed to advancing key sectors in her constituency, focusing on health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure.

As the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mia made this pledge while handing over a new classroom block and an administration building at Gombwa Junior Primary School in Traditional Authority Ngabu, Chikwawa District. The project, funded through the K46 million Constituency Development Fund (CDF), aims to address educational infrastructure needs.

Mia praised the recent increase in the CDF to K200 million, explaining that it allows for more comprehensive development across her constituency. “In the past, with CDF at K100 million, many areas were underserved, with infrastructure often being substandard. I commend President Chakwera for entrusting us with these resources to facilitate meaningful change,” Mia stated.

She also noted that her development projects extend beyond education, with initiatives in healthcare, agriculture, and water and sanitation, supported by both CDF funds and partner organizations.

Gombwa Junior Primary School’s headteacher, Chikwasha Jimu, highlighted the critical shortage of classrooms that had previously forced students to learn under trees. He commended Mia for improving school facilities, which will now better serve students in grades 1 through 6.

Gertrude Jumbe, Chikwawa’s Director of Education and Sports, added that the classroom shortage in the district has led to overcrowding, with some schools facing a student-to-teacher ratio of 80:1.

In addition to her educational initiatives, Mia distributed food items, including flour and soya pieces, to vulnerable community members, such as the elderly, orphans, and women, with assistance from the Muslim World League.
