The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has trained an additional 200 Elections Monitoring Device (EMD) operators to support those already working in the initial phase of the ongoing voter registration exercise across various districts.
Speaking at the training launch in Mponela on Friday, MEC chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja emphasized the need for more operators to manage the high turnout seen in certain registration centers. She noted, “To ensure that registrants do not wait in long queues, we aim to have as many operators as possible. This supplementary team will strengthen the efforts already underway in the field.”
Mtalimanja also urged the new EMD operators to remain committed to their roles, contributing to a smooth and efficient registration process.
