Lilongwe City Council Advises UTM to Postpone Rally Due to Conflicting Church Event.

Date:

The Lilongwe City Council has advised the United Transformation Movement (UTM) to postpone its rally scheduled for August 25, 2024, at Masintha Ground, due to a conflicting event. The CCAP Church is holding a major celebration at CIVO Stadium on the same day, which will be attended by President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera.
Citing concerns about potential clashes, disruptions, and ensuring public safety, the Council’s CEO, Macloud Kadam’manja, urged UTM to reschedule the rally for a later date. The Council noted that security personnel will be assigned to cover the church function, making it challenging to ensure safety at the UTM rally.
UTM officials have been instructed to reschedule the event, but the party has not yet responded to the Council’s statement.
