The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in Zomba Diocese has called on faith and traditional leaders to encourage women to participate in politics ahead of the 2025 general elections. CCJP Programmes Manager, Augustine Mailosi, emphasized the importance of women’s participation in politics, citing their capacity and potential to contribute to sound politics.
The CCJP is implementing a project to enhance women’s participation in politics, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Mailosi urged faith and traditional leaders to use their influence to promote women’s participation and called on organizations to provide financial support to women aspirants.
Traditional leaders pledged their support for women candidates, condemning those who discourage women from participating in politics. Attendees, including Miriam Chimombo, expressed their willingness to vote for women candidates and encouraged women to support one another to increase representation in Parliament and councils.
