Malawi Reports Two Suspected Mpox Cases, Ministry Urges Prevention and Preparedness.

Date:

Malawi’s Health Minister, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, has confirmed two suspected cases of the Mpox virus in Blantyre residents – a 31-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy. While emphasizing that the disease has no cure, Chiponda stressed the importance of preventive measures like frequent handwashing and avoiding physical contact. The ministry is working to access the Mpox vaccine through the World Health Organization.
Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) Director Kelvin Mponda reassured the public that the cases are under control and being assessed in collaboration with the Malawi Welcome Liverpool Trust. The ministry has initiated training for health personnel to identify Mpox and is conducting screenings at borders and airports to detect potential cases early.
